Mixed Media Mermaid Canvas DT Project for ReneaBouquets

Hi Crafty Friends Phyllis here today to share a Mixed Media Canvas.  I created on an 8x10 canvas using sprays,  bead trim,  shells(from the beach in Mexico),  straws,  Prima Flowers,  Prima White Crackle, Prima color bloom spray,   Blue Fern Studios chipboard pieces,  crocheted doilies,  say it with crystals,  ReneaBouquets metal key,  ReneaBouquets Butterflies,  cheesecloth,  glitter,  shard glitter glass and stencil.  I have a youtube process video you can view too!
I love to use fairies and mermaids for my inspiration and of course one of my favorite places to be at the beach but who doesn't love it?

If you've been following ReneaBouquets or me you know I LOVE lots of texture!

I added some Shard chunky Glitter Glass to the cutout of the mermaid for some bling!  I also cut.......did I say cut???  Yes I cut ReneaBouquets Tiny Treasures Chasing Butterflies Glitter Glass for some fins!

I hope I've inspired you today to try Mixed Media,  it is addicting!
Be sure to check out all ReneaBouquets for all your DIY crafty supplies,  she has also been very busy creating some STUNNING butterflies and dragonflies!

Reneabouquets Altered Cupboard Door By Guest Designer Tina Goodwin

Hello Reneabouquets fans! My name is Tina and I am soooooo excited to have the honor of guest designing this month for Reneabouquets. I discovered Renea's gorgeous creations a couple of years ago in a craft group. I fell instantly in love and have been using them ever since.

I generally make cards, but I wanted to do something a little different for my first GD project. I decided to alter a cupboard door that we have had hanging around for a few years. You know what I'm talking of those things you see and have to have because one day you will do something awesome with it. It doesn't matter that it's taken three years to get around to that something awesome...does it?

Be prepared for lots of pictures!

This is what I started out with...

To be honest, I don't just have one of these. I have a lot of them. My husband helped a friend, help a friend take down her cabinets. Having the AMAZING husband that I do, he knew that I would want them to craft with. (So really, it's his fault they have been taking up space in HIS garage for so long. Hahaha)

Ok, back to my project. I began by washing it with TSP, sanded the heck out of it (front and back) and then put a generous layer of Gesso all over the front, sides and part of the back.

While the Gesso was drying, my niece, who was visiting from Washington and I made texture paste. I found a recipe on Pinterest and made sure I had all of the ingredients on hand to make it. Allison, my niece, did most of the work making the texture paste. She had a lot of fun. This was the first time we have ever crafted together (we moved to Alaska when she was 2). It was a lot of fun.

Once the Gesso was dry, I grabbed a few stencils out of my stash and started adding texture to my cupboard door. I let Allison do some too.

Now we wait for things to dry. Drying time drives me crazy! I am very impatient so I usually have another project going that I can work on during drying time. Otherwise I tend to mess my project up.

Phew! It's finally done drying. Now I placed the
Blue Fern Laser Cut Chipboard - Sweetheart Dressform and the Blue Fern Laser Cut Chipboard - Shabby Brick Bits in random places until I found the perfect place. Then I adhered them with gel medium and did another layer of Gesso over the entire cupboard (chipboard included)

MORE drying time followed by putting texture paste on the chipboard brick bits and drying. Once dried, I used ink sprays to color the cupboard door. While the ink sprays dried, I cut cheesecloth in thin strips and died them with the ink sprays. I set them aside and let them dry.

After the strips of cheesecloth were dry, I adhered them to the dressform with hot glue. Then I dabbed the top of the dressform and the brick bits with a Ranger Clear Emboss It Ink Dabber (I seriously love this stuff!) then added some sparkly white dry embossing powder and used my heat tool to emboss it.

When the dress form had enough cheesecloth I added fine glitter to make the dress sparkle.
I had some died cheesecloth left over so I added it in random places around the edges of the cupboard to create more texture.

After that, I added Dusty Purple and White Roses and Leaves, Prima Rose Quartz Flowers, Shabby Lavender Roses Glitter Glass Butterflies, and  Sweetheart Lavender Glitter Glass Butterflies. Renea's butterflies are my favorite embellishment. I use them all the time on my cards and other crafts.

Now on to the glitter glass. I used Lavender Chunky Glitter Glass and Dark Purple Chunky Glitter Glass. I had never used glitter glass before, but have seen it on MANY gorgeous creations on Renea's Facebook page. I used a couple different techniques. First I added it by dipping a paint brush in Mog Podge, then dipping the paint brush into the glitter and then spreading it onto the cupboard. I really didn't like the effect of this technique. I had to try something else. I went with the way I usually glitter things. I spread Mod Podge where I wanted the glitter and then shook the glitter over the wet glue. This worked a lot better for me.

I love the sparkly texture the glitter glass gives projects. It's so pretty!
To complete my cupboard door I wanted to cover the back in cardstock. In hindsight this should have probably been done first, but I like to do things backwards =)

I used some cardstock that I purchased from Reneabouquets over a year ago. This paper is so pretty, I've been saving it for those extra special projects. It's from Blue Fern Studios and is called Serendipity. I cut the paper to size and then adhered, it to the back with Mod Podge.

I had so much fun altering this cupboard door. Renea's products really give it a special touch.

Thank you so much for stopping by the Reneabouquets Blog. I hope you all have a craftastic day!

Short On Time?? Try This Quick Prima Rose Quartz Pocket Journal!!

Welcome to the weekend everybody!! I know this weekend is Father Day and that means a little less time in the art studio and more time spent with the men in your life, so today, I have a pocket journal that I put together quickly using items that you can find in the and Reneabouquets Etsy Shops. I used the Prima Rose Quartz 12 x 12 Paper Pad and the cut out elements, along with the pretty papers in the kit, made it a snap to put together this piece that is perfect for journaling, adding small photos to and tucking in your FAV memories.

I created a 6 Inch Wide x 9 Inch Tall Pocket by folding the paper in 1/2 and then cutting down the length. I cut the front portion at a diagonal, and glued the bottom and right hand edge to form a pocket. I added on a layer of Rose Gold Lace, and then took a piece of the paper and did some edge tearing layered that on then I took the sentiment piece from the paper, and did some edge tearing on it and layered it on. I added a Bee Clock Trinket to the top, tied some ribbon through it and popped on a

I then added some soft feathers,  Silver Leaves,  a Prima Rose Quartz Provenza Flower, and a  Dusty Pink Mini Rose. I added a set of 2 of the Tiny Treasures Organza Butterflies to make everything just pop!!

Here you can see all the tuck in pieces that I created from the sentiment page in the collection, adding on hand dyed seam binding ribbons, Dusty Pink Mini Roses, and some Sweetheart Rhinestone & Pearl Buttons to create:
1- Small Booklet
2- Double Sided Tags
2- Large Double Sided Tags

Making something beautiful doesn't have to take forever, especially when you use lots of layers and add in those Reneabouquets "Beautiful With An Edge" touches!! I hope that you find some time to enjoy Father's Day with the wonderful men in your life. I will be spending mine with my husband and son, pigging out and designing together! Hugs ~Renea
