I don't know about where you live, but here in the South it is definitely still Summer. I see everyone already creating Fall Projects, but I am still working on Summer.
I created this layout as a gift for my beautiful son and his boyfriend Greg. They recently went on vacation to Key West, so I incorporated some of the things they told me about it into the details.
I used Mintay Seaside Escape Papers to create all the layers, and they were perfect for the masculine meets beach vacation theme.
I took the Beautiful Board Chunky Chain Link Frame Set Of 2 Laser Cut Chipboard Frames and used a sponge to 2 tone ink them and then arranged them onto the torn and inked paper layer.
I used Balsa Wood and handmade the frame myself. I painted it with a dark brown acrylic paint, added a crackle medium. Let the medium air dry and then painted the top layer with white acrylic paint, letting it air dry to cause the crackle to come through. I then lightly sanded the frame to reveal some of the brown for a worn, distressed look that went so well with the papers.
The frame is attached with magnets so that they can either keep the photo I chose, or change it out to one of their favorites.
I made a hemp rope bow and added a real seashell. Next, came a Beautiful Board Tiny Nautical Anchor Laser Cut Chipboard that I colored the "rope" in on and added a little blue star to.
I made the Summer Piece for myself from Beautiful Board. Inked it using Tim Holtz Barn Door Red and added it to the frame. This represents all the nautical themed decor and sail boats they saw.
I fussy cut out a lighthouse from the papers and built a little real rock wall to pull it out across the bottom of the frame and add a little special touch of texture. This represents their visit to Fort Jefferson.
I created Flower Clusters at the top and bottom of the chain link frames using Royal Blue Roses & Leaves and Red Currant Roses & Leaves along with a Prima flower, and burlap string bows.
I added a little glass vile that I filled with Fine Sugar Cookie Glitter Glass to represent "sand" from the beach.
I used some stash metal letters to create the "Key" and stash metal bottle caps with letters to create the "West".
I cut out 2 tags from the papers for space to journal or add small photos, and tucked them into the pocket I created at the top of the torn paper layer. I added a metal Tim Holtz Clip and a BoBunny Brad to one. The other one got a metal clip and a little turtle charm from the Reneabouquets By The Sea Trinkets Pack that represents their trip to the turtle hospital.
And here are the 2 tags removed from the pocket.
I really enjoyed creating this special piece for my 2 guys and it is mounted onto board and ready to hang in their home. I hope it gives them joy and helps them to remember their vacation.
I hope that you get to create something special for someone you love as well. Hugs ~ Renea
