"Life Is A Journey" Altered Captain's Wheel
The base of this project is an 8" Captain's Wheel made of wood that I ordered from Etsy to make a door decoration for a friend who loves to go cruising. I didn't know decorating your door was "a thing" but once I found out I knew I needed to make something fun for her birthday. The paper collection "Old Marina" from Scrapboys was perfect for this project.
I first painted the wheel in a dark brown and covered it with crackle. When it didn't crackle I decided it was too dark so I covered it with some cream paint. It then crackled and some of the dark paint showed through and it ended up working just fine! Around the main part of the wheel I placed a Beautiful Board Chain Link Frame that I painted blue and added a row of small pearls on the inside. I fussy cut the images and placed them inside the frame and added floral, shell, and clock die cuts. Mulberry flower sprays in tan, blue and white were added to the top and bottom of the wheel and dusted with some Gawdie Girl Diamond Chunky German Glitter Glass. At the bottom of the wheel some Reneabouquets Trim - Drop Leaf Lace was added. At the top spray a seahorse peaks out from the flowers. Two butterflies were added to the frame piece. The spokes of the wheel were covered with Beautiful Beads Candy Flatback Pearls in white. To finish it off I added the words "Life Is A Journey" to tie in with the theme of the project. This project will make its first journey this summer!
